One of the most important characteristics of a St. Anne’s education is character development. Every day, the St. Anne’s faculty and staff work hard to ensure values of empathy, kindness, compassion, hard work and humility. It is a wonderful thing when we hear about our alumni carrying on these values once they leave St. Anne’s.

Barrett Oxenreider ‘17 volunteered this summer for the Miracles on Ice hockey camp, a week-long hockey and academic camp for boys and girls living in one of four housing projects affiliated with the University of Denver Bridge Project. The camp was founded by the Howard Family Foundation with current St. Anne's staff member Matt Howard as its Director.

All of the equipment, food and teaching supplies are donated from various sponsors. The staff are all volunteers, and some are even alums of the program. The camp “teaches students the importance of maintaining a strong mind and healthy body, and encourages discipline, commitment, and team play by blending education with athletics in a positive environment for learning and growth.”

Barrett, an avid hockey player, spent one week of his summer using his skills to make a difference to the lives of 32 young boys and girls. Barrett and Matt are great examples of living the St. Anne’s mission.miracles

St. Anne's community members and friends gathered in May at Bible Park to walk in memory of Sam and Grace Masoudi who died while they were students at St. Anne's. The walk supports the Sam and Grace Masoudi Memorial Fund that helps provide partial scholarships to six deserving students in the middle school each year in conjunction with the Challenge Foundation.  We are so appreciative of all who walked and donated to this special cause.

St. Anne's celebrated the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Martha Ostertag Adams '82 in early May. She came to speak to the entire student body about her work with Girl Rising to empower girls through education. Martha also fondly reflected on her time as a student at St. Anne's and the lessons and friendships that have served her in her life's journey. We were inspired and honored to have her join us back on campus.

Scott Yeates ’96 will open Mythology Distillery and its Watering Hole Bar in June in the LoHi area of Denver. The location and bar will distill and offer vodka, gin and whiskey. Yeates and fellow founders joined with distiller Scott Coburn, a former production head at High West Distillery, to bring the idea to life.  Click HERE to follow their progress and learn more.

Hunter Leggitt ’95, played a huge role in the launch of the Octopus Initiative design/build exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Denver in March 2018.  Hunter Leggitt Studio built the permanent installation at the museum. Octopus Initiative, or “putting art in the hands of many,” is the museum’s new art lending library which lets you borrow a painting for up to a year for free. MCA launched the project with 150 works, all created by Denver artists, with the goal to offer as many as 500 paintings by 2020.  Although the art isn’t for sale, Adam Lerner, the museum’s director and chief animator, says he hopes people will learn about Denver artists through the library and that it will spark people’s interest in buying other pieces from those artists.

In December, Rico Lopez ’14 was recognized for his piece, “The Global Slide from Democracy: Time to Wake Up,” as one of four winners of the Arch J. Roberts essay/reporting contest for high school and college students. The award was launched by News-Decoder, a non-profit news service for millennials. Rico, a senior at The Thacher School in California, is the editor-in-chief of the school's newspaper, The Notes.
