Our New Normal

While campus will look and feel different, our goal is to care for students, make learning fun, and keep our community safe.

All students will enter through designated classroom doors or stairwells. This is to limit cross-interaction from cohorts and highly touched surfaces.

All students will wash their hands upon entering the building and will get settled at their individual tables/desks to start their day.

In both the Lower School and Middle School, the flow of the day will provide routine and flexibility to the day-to-day life of our students.

In the Lower School

Arrival

Every morning students will start the day in a Responsive Classroom morning meeting. This provides:

  • a consistent daily routine of greeting each other

  • sharing in community

  • engaging in lighthearted moments

  • setting up the day’s learning for social-emotional and academic success.

Class times and flow:

Throughout the day, the curricular expectations will have many familiar aspects. Students will lead their learning as:

  • readers

  • writers

  • mathematicians

  • scientists

  • musicians

  • artists.

Rather than travel to different classrooms, the cohorts will welcome specialists into their classroom for week-long intensives to deepen thematic explorations into various subjects.

The flow of the day will be dotted with opportunities for regular hygienic practices - handwashing and bathroom breaks - to promote health and good hygiene. When outside, we will also use this time for designated mask breaks.

In the Middle School

Advisory:

Middle school students will begin the day in their grade-level cohort advisories. Advisors provide:

  • important connection points for students, parents, and other teachers
  • the opportunity to build community within the advisory
  • coordinated communication and support for our students and families

More than ever, the advisory system will be critical to the social-emotional wellbeing of our students.

Class time:

Rather than travel to different classrooms, the cohorts will welcome teachers into their cohort classrooms. All middle school teachers will have the choice and discretion to move learning easily between indoor and outdoor spaces so that they can optimize the learning experience for our students.

For All Students

Flexibility:

Cohort leaders and middle school teachers will have the choice and discretion to move learning easily between indoor and outdoor spaces so that they can optimize the learning experience for our students.

Lunch:

Our students will continue to build their cohort friendships while having their meals delivered to the classrooms. On days with nice weather, they can go outside and enjoy our great outdoor spaces while staying in their cohorts.

Dismissal:

Finally, at the end of the day, all students will be able to wait safely in their classrooms as their car numbers are called up and they are directed through the campus to their appropriate exit.
