Why did you choose to teach? Keeps me young and engaged. Kids are our most critical resource as a species. Why not try to impact them in a positive way?

Hobbies or interests outside of school: Music, running, and camping.

Favorite thing about St. Anne's: It's hard to name just one thing! Creative, supportive, and FUN colleagues that work as a team and love our SAES kids. I love being part of our wonderful middle school in which our students feel safe, loved, and supported to navigate the confusing ups-and-downs of the tween years.

Why did you choose to teach? I teach because of the impact that learning a language in school had on me. It gave me the opportunity to be able to communicate with a whole new world of people and be immersed in everyday life in other cultures. I want everyone to have the superpower of understanding and speaking another language! I also teach because middle schoolers are magical!

Hobbies or interests outside of school: Building things and doing art projects, camping, being in nature, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, dancing, and listening to music, and working in the garden.

Stuck on an island what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book: Any giant book with lots of poems in it because you can read poems over and over again, and they are different every time you read them.

Favorite thing about St. Anne's: My favorite thing about working at St. Anne's is the overwhelming sense of community that permeates throughout the campus. From the moment I first visited, to walking into work every day, it feels amazing! The support, camaraderie, and teamwork is the best! It feels amazing to be a part of something that is so extremely special.

Why did you choose to teach? From the moment I was in first grade I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Sister Janet Marie made going to school something to look forward to each and every day. Knowing what an impact that makes on young learners, I knew it would be a daunting task. However, it has been one of the most fulfilling choices I have ever made. Seeing the excitement of students eager to come into the classroom tells me I have the best job ever.

Hobbies or interests outside of school: My dog! Juggling, dancing, volleyball, and hanging out with my family!

Stuck on an island what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book: If I knew I would be stuck in advance, I would want it to be the Bible! However, if I just happened to be stuck without prior insight--it would be probably be some new book purchased for my classroom--latest purchase--The Happy Book by Rachel Kempster

It feels like I work in a fairytale because of the gorgeous campus and the amazing people I work with. We are a big family that looks out for one another and cares deeply for every individual.

Why did you choose to teach? I love seeing the "aha" moments in my students. Teaching is rewarding everyday that you get to have fun with kids while teaching them life skills to be a productive member of society. It always warms my heart when my students start to see their potential and come back and tell me about their successes.

Hobbies or interests outside of school: Camping, hiking, snowboarding, spending time with my two daughters and dogs, jewelry making, reading, dancing

Favorite thing about St. Anne's: There are so many things that are my favorite thing about St. Anne’s. From the first moment I walked onto campus, the magic took my breath away, and continues to do so to this day. I feel very honored and blessed to work in a community of support with doing what’s best for each child. St. Anne's is a strong community. I am in awe of the fact that my passion for teaching preschool is not only supported, but encouraged as well. The reason I teach, to value, honor, respect and encourage each child, is what St. Anne's is all about.

Why did you choose to teach? I believe that each child is a unique individual and that uniqueness should be valued, honored, respected and encouraged. Children should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. I believe that a child’s early experience is the foundation for adult potential, that parents are key to a child’s unique development and that play is essential in the learning process. My fundamental educational philosophy is that learning should be curiosity driven, active, enjoyable and emphasize student self-expression. The guiding principle in my teaching encompasses the idea that teachers should seek to empower students with the necessary skills needed to take control of their own learning. More important than what is actually learned are the skills needed to acquire that knowledge. Young children learn best when they are allowed to actively explore their environment, using materials in a hands-on fashion to learn specific concepts and building on their natural curiosity and having the appropriate materials for them to accomplish these goals in a nurturing atmosphere, where they feel secure, valued, capable and important. I believe that children thrive in an atmosphere of trust, where they are provided with support, in a safe and gentle environment. I believe that a child’s self-esteem and ability to learn are interdependent. That is, children succeed when they have a strong sense of self; therefore I believe it is important to foster a sense of competency and independence in all aspects of the child’s being. Children are our future and deserve our very best efforts in maximizing all aspects of their growth physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. I believe from the time of birth, all children are ready to learn. Encouraging that eagerness is my passion in life. The task is challenging, but very rewarding. By providing a child early in his/her life a nurturing environment to grow and explore, I can help strengthen the foundation of learning that will endure a lifetime.

Hobbies or interests outside of school: Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 4 daughters, and 6 grandchildren. When I’m not spending time with our girls and our grandchildren, I enjoy reading, gardening, and hiking. Through the varied interests of our daughters I’m consistently presented with new opportunities to expand my world while continuing to learn, grow and be inspired.

Stuck on an island, what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book: This is Water by David Foster Wallace. Every time I re-read this book, I journey down the road of purpose, what I do, how I do it and more importantly why I do it.

Oh, for so many reasons. Some are difficult to articulate, but joy is always an underlying feeling. The joy of setting foot on our beautiful campus each day, the joy radiating out from our young learners, the joy and laughter experienced when colleagues work together. I love observing students unlock their reading and writing power, but I also love all the unexpected moments of learning that occur outside of the curriculum.

Why did you choose to teach?
I actually wanted to be a teacher from the time I started Kindergarten. I loved school as a child! That feeling became a passion for working with young people, watching them learn and grow, and learning alongside them. Although I am not currently in the classroom, I still get to be around teachers, students and parents every day. I can honestly say that, after all these years, I still love coming to school every day.

I love the warm, welcoming St. Anne's community, the dedicated team of learning specialists, our strong leadership, and, most of all, the students who are full of energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

Why did you choose to teach?
I love supporting students as they grow and develop. Being there when they make discoveries, overcome obstacles, and celebrate successes is so rewarding. I'm also fascinated by the brain, learning, and solving puzzles. Each student is an individual and it's interesting to help students find their strengths and also work with them to strengthen the areas they are still developing. Every day is different and the learning never stops when you work in a school. It's an honor and privilege to be an educator.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
The welcoming and inclusive community of staff and parents. It is one of the most supportive environments I have ever experienced.

Why did you choose to teach?
I was in my early 50s, struggling in a corporate job when a friend of mine encouraged me to become a reading tutor, and when I responded that I had no experience, she told me it didn’t matter. She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself and said I’d make a good tutor because I knew what it was like to be a kid that was struggling; it wasn’t about struggling academically but struggling in other areas of life. She said half of tutoring would be making the child believe they could do it. So I took a leap of faith, quit my job and worked on my OG certification. I love the one-on-one connection that comes with tutoring and watching a child’s confidence blossom, especially when their reading scores improve. When the position of kindergarten teacher’s assistant opened up at St. Anne’s, I jumped at the chance. I told my friend I was going to miss the one-on-one experience and she said that’s true, but now you get to help more; once again she was right. It’s amazing to see the joy on a child’s face when things start to click. I’m still getting used to the brutal honesty of kindergarteners, but love the fact every day is different. I think I’m learning more from them than they are learning from me.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:

It would depend upon if I wanted to stay on the island or be rescued. If I wanted to be rescued, it would be How to Be a Viking by Cressida Cowell. If I wanted to remain on the island, it would be 100 Smoothie Recipes.

I moved to Denver after graduating from the University of Mississippi in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. I was working at a preschool in Golden this past year. A fun fact about me is I held a koala in Australia! I am so excited for my first year at St. Anne’s!

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
What I love about SAES is the connection with the kids and families. It is a joy to come to work every day and be surrounded by caring and kind people.

Why did you choose to teach?
I teach because I really care about children getting a solid foundation socially, emotionally and academically. I think a solid foundation gives them the confidence and self-esteem they need to carry them forward in their lives. Being a part of their growth and successes is so rewarding.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
I love everything outdoors: skiing, hiking, and tennis. I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling to new places, especially the beach!

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
Our families and students!

Why did you choose to teach?
I owe all that I am today to two of my high school teachers. They changed my life. They helped me to be the best me inside and outside the classroom. I want to be able to help students to do the same.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
I enjoy climbing rocks both with my hands or on my mountain bike. You can catch me on the river trying to outwit trout. They normally outwit me! My Hokas are the most used shoes in my closet. I have been on the run since 8th grade. Today, at 46, I am a little slower, but my love for running is just as strong.

My favorite thing about working at St. Anne's is the kids. I love shaking their hands in the morning, spending time with them at recess, and sitting with them at lunch (when they let me!)

Why did you choose education?
I think education is the most important thing we can all support financially. With a strong academic and character foundation, students can succeed and go on to do remarkable things in the world!

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
Outside of school, I enjoy all the wonderful activities Colorado has to offer: mountain biking, hiking, camping, running, and spending time with husband, Chad, and our 2-year old son, Jack.

Stuck on an island, what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book:
Shel Silverstein's A Light in the Attic, a collection of poems. They are quirky, silly, reflective and fun!

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
I love teaching at St. Anne's because I have the opportunity of working with students through a six-year period where we grow up together as people and artists. There is much to learn and experience, and we really get to know each other as humans. The culture here is nurturing for children, and there is real connection between adults and children. We care, and the kids know it.

Why did you choose to teach?
I teach because I love making art, and I love kids, so making art with kids is the perfect place for me to be.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
I make all kinds of art. I lift weights, I jog (I used to run, but too slow now to call it running), I ski, I ride motorcycles, and I hang with my myriad of grandchildren.

Hobbies or interests outside of school: I enjoy anything active - running, golfing, cooking, hiking, biking, fly fishing, skiing, traveling, gardening, and ‘actively’ reading!  I love spending time with my family – they remain my greatest source of joy and strength.  Oh yeah, I also love my morning cup of coffee!

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
The people. From students to families to colleagues to alums, St. Anne's is a community of caring people grounded in humility, gratitude, and empathy. Day in and day out, I can give my all to these people while knowing that they will fill me and fuel me to keep going. It's an energetic cycle that keeps me invigorated and inspired.

Why did you choose to teach?
Attending St. Anne's as a student from K-8, I was fortunate to have such phenomenal teachers who cared deeply for me. From early on, I felt drawn to coming back to teach at St. Anne's and be a part of that magic. Through high school and college, I coached kids tennis in the summers. No matter the context, I have always loved being around kids. Their energy, spirit, and light make me the best version of myself. I am motivated by helping them to know themselves, to be thoughtful & responsible members of their community, and to find joy in learning. And that helps me to do the same on my journey.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
Spending time with family & friends, kickboxing, learning Brazilian Portuguese, gardening, going on walks, and playing tennis-- anything outside! Reading Young Adult books about social justice, and cuddling with my cats, Leo & Luna.

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
I love taking care of St. Anne's and keeping it running so that the entire community can enjoy uninterrupted access to the technology they require.

Why did you choose education?
I didn't really choose education, education chose me, and once I experienced that feeling of helping out 5-year old Kindergarteners navigate through Carmen Sandiego and Math Blaster, I knew I found a great place to build a career.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
Any time I can get my hands on something to try and figure out how it works so that I can keep it running, that's great. Any type of walking, hiking in the burbs and in the outdoors.

Stuck on an island, what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book:
I don't read books. I would sit and listen to the ocean, hike to all parts of the island and explore, fish and hunt for food, figure out how to spark a fire, and then start building a way to some day get off the island and name it Gilligan!

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
St. Anne's is like a family to me. It is a loving community made up of faculty/staff and families who care deeply about each other, all working together to do what is best for the students.

Why did you choose to teach?
When I was in high school, I had a wonderful math teacher who encouraged and influenced my life. At the end of my senior year, I decided that I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives just like my high school math teacher made a difference in my life. Every day, I look forward to all of the blessings I receive from my students and all of their smiling faces. I also enjoy teaching other educators new ideas and strategies and finding new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
I love spending time with my twin girls, running, skiing, hiking, and getting together with friends and family.

Stuck on an island, what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book:
I would bring a collection of books that would help me to be a better person, mom, wife, teacher, and improve my technology skills.

Favorite thing about St. Anne's:
St. Anne's is near and dear to my heart. I have been teaching here for over 33 years and could not imagine a better place to spend my days. Walking onto campus, I always get a sense of contentment. My peers, the children I work with and the campus all bring joy to my daily life. I do believe that St. Anne's follows its own mission by "Educating Minds, Enriching Hearts and Expanding Horizons." I am blessed to be part of such an amazing place.

Why did you choose to teach?
No two days are the same! Every day I come home from school with at least one story that made me laugh or smile. The daily hugs I receive from the first graders are genuine and make each day special. It is magical to get to know young children by heart and to help them to succeed.

Hobbies or interests outside of school:
Spending time with my children and grandchildren, reading, and hiking.

Stuck on an island, what book do you bring with you?/Favorite book:
Just one book? I need an entire library!
